Civil War Block # 2
I chose a very simple block this week. I still have too many irons in the fire to relax and think about quilting. The 9 patch block is from the diary entry of Mary Austin Adelia Wallace. She was a Michigan bride. Her husband, Bruce, enlisted in the Michigan Volunteer Infantry in Jan. of 1862. She was 24 and left to run the farm as best she could. The book is calling this block "Selling The Livestock". I don't think what these diary entries are called has much to do with the particular block shown, but I'm going to consider them as such for this quilt. The entry is dated Sept. 22, 1862. Mary lived until 1921.

It must have been a hard life back then. You'd wonder when they ever found time to quilt.
You know between you and my sister with your copies of this book you're ALMOST making me want to get the book and do the sampler in 1800s repros. That's a far cry from my beloved brights. LOL!
Neat fabrics. You know how to combine them. Hang in there.
I came so close to ordering this book yesterday and talked myself out of it. Your blocks and the stories that go with them make me regret that decision today.
Hope your days settle soon so you can enjoy your stitching.
That's an interesting name for a block, "selling the livestock." Maybe it's so named because she had to sell the livestock to buy the material.
Your blocks are just lovely Finn, the colours are perfect! I think I remember reading about that lady in the book. Seeing your gorgeous blocks makes me want to start the quilt ... not yet tho, I'm going to be strong!
*hugs*

Finn, I'm loving the Civil War blocks that you are doing...the colors are beautiful and the stories so interesting. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Carolyn
hurray for another block made-a small step towards this fun quilt...hope life allows more quilting and less other distractions! big hugs
I think you should just forget everything else and concentrate on this quilt - just for you! Chuck all the obligations and expectations others have for you! Hope all goes well with the MRI.
Finn I really like the colors :) Hope things settle down for you soon ((hugs)) melzie
Nice and easy 9-patch. You hit the nail on the head Finn - you do need headspace to quilt. Maybe my going back to work is consuming so much of my brain I can't bear to take my quilt top, wadding and backing out of the bag to put them together.
Maybe tomorrow!
thank you for sharing the stories and photos of the blocks - it is very interesting.
I have the green 9 patch fabric in beige!!
Both are very nice blocks. It's fun reading the entries with each block!
It looks wonderful Finn! Heck, I think I could handle a 9-patch!
