Civil War???
I've been digging through my stash again, looking for things that I think would work in my Civil War Diary Quilt. What do you think of these 7? The darkest green one is Museum Reproduction from back in the 1980's, and lightest green is an older reproductions also.
The next two pictures are the ones I've already selected(bought them in July)
And here are the next new selections I pulled from stash.
The softer green is actually a Civil War print from Marcus Bros. Not sure how long that has been in my stash. The darkest one is a black and dark green that I think might work. I'd like your opinons please. With these 12 I'm getting closer. I'm not committing to the "sew at least one hr. a day", but I am setting a goal of one Civil War block a week..mininum. I have the first one ready to show you..*VBS* Tomorrow..*G*

If it goes and you like it then I think that's close enough. Jo Morton would say so. She does little reproduction quilts, has written several books and designs fabrics, and she says she doesn't necessarily stick exactly to the period when she creates a little quilt. If the fabric gives the quilt the look she is trying for she uses it. And since her little quilts sell for big bucks what she believes is good enough for me.
You can go to www.reproductionfabrics.com to see what they show for the civil war period. A great resource for what fabrics looked like at that time.
Wow, what a stash. They all look great together to me. Can't wait to see the block :-).
They all look good to me -- a gorgeous quilt is in the making. Waiting anxiously to see tomorrow's photo. *s*
They look wonderful to me...I love working with Civil War fabrics. I really don't think you can go wrong with them...if you like it that's all that matters. Have fun!
I am no expert on CW repros, but from here it looks like these fabrics and colours will give the right CW look. You know, you have the final decision - it is your quilt :-) I am looking forward to see your first block.
Those fabrics all look great Finn, when I start pulling fabrics for my quilt, they're the colours I'll be going for.
I can't wait to see your block, it's all I can do to keep from making one myself!
*hugs*

:-)
I love all the fabrics your civil war diary quilt is going to be fabulous.
I don't know much about the civil war fabric line but I do like what I see on your end of the computer. Good work, I look forward to seeing that completed quilt.
Finn, I think you've done an outstanding job on gathering those fabrics! They all look wonderful. :o) Can't wait to see that first block!
Also, you have the nicest house! It looks very cozy and welcoming from your pic. AND, to have everything taken care of for you (plowing, mowing, etc)? WOW. I wanna move in! ;o)
Have a wonderful day!
Nice picks-can't wait to see each block as it emerges. One per week? Now that's a good goal to shoot for.
I got my Civil War Diary Quilt book the other day. First I'm going to read all the stories. Then I'm going to put it on my list of blocks to try.
Oh Finn this new project looks great already!
I am soooo jealous of your stash :)
I just got this book on Saturday and while I was going through it I was struck at how clear the colors in the quilt were in the book too!
I think you have done a great job picking out colors!! You have avoided the few colors that make it look really muddy...like the heather blues and the mauvy pinks. These are clear and bright and yet all look perfect in tune with the time period. Think about any of these made into a dress and you can see it.
I think it's going to look really great!!
They all work (according to my eyes).
look like perfect fabric selections to me Finn-nice to have so much already in the stash too! have caught up with your posts...love the grandson photo..hugs
looking good--some more navy, brown and blacks maybe??
